There are several good reasons to support and oppose capital punishment. There are several bad reasons to be for and against the death penalty too. The general population has a wide range of beliefs concerning capital punishment. Even these beliefs of the general population are subject to change. In the end, it is what the majority of society currently believes to be moral that should be reflected by the actions of their government.
Reasons For:
There are many reasons people are executed, and there are reasons against being executed. There are also reasons for both and they can vary. Some of the most common reasons people are executed is because of prison. Prisons are for separating the people that kill, cause destruction and are crazy, for the rest of the citizens so we are safe. Prisons are in prison to teach them a lesson so they won't go out and keep committing the same crime over and over, it knocks some sense into some, and others it doesn't. Prison is not for some people that will never be released. Cost of prison is a lot more to imprisoning someone for life than to execute them. Its argued if capital punishment is cost effective when compared with the cost of life imprisonment. People who get executed are usually violent individuals. For safety of guards, other prisoners and the public, a logical end for them is capital punishment. Also some say that appropriate punishment is a suggestion because if someone kills, they should be killed; it's only logic.
Reasons Against:
People believe prison is an alternative to executing someone, but still prison in life with no patrol still has its issues. Capital punishment is also not humane to some. Killing someone isn't right even if they are a criminal and life as a criminal cannot be compensate the crime someone as committed. The pain of death is also a concern because some can die quick and painless and some can die slow and painful. Some cultures prefer suffering and others do not. Someone can also be wrongly convicted and the person can be killed even if they didn't commit the crime which is wrong. Executing someone also plays god, because some believe death should be natural and other see murder as a part of nature.
Reasons for & Against:
Religion plays a big role in this because different religions have different beliefs on capital punishment also throughout the life of an individual, their beliefs and morality can and most likely change. As we can see, there are a lot of good reasons to support and oppose capital punishment. Also, there are several bad reasons to be for and against the death penalty too.

Poll shows support for death penalty is lowest in more than 40 years. If that continues at the same rate, it’ll sink below 50 percent sometime around 2024.
